Car washes in the United States come in four main formats: the express tunnel, where you stay in the car while a conveyor pulls it through brushes or high-pressure jets; the full-service wash, where attendants vacuum and wipe down the interior after the tunnel; the self-service bay with a coin or card-operated pressure wand, foam brush and vacuums; and the hand wash, where a crew washes and dries the car by hand. Touchless tunnels skip the cloth brushes entirely and rely on chemicals and water pressure, which is gentler on paint but less effective on heavy grime. Most express chains sell an unlimited monthly plan, usually priced at two to three single washes, that is only worth it if you wash more than twice a month. Gas stations often bundle a discounted wash with a fill-up.

Hi everyone, I need to share a frustrating experience here in Kentucky and Ohio with Mikeβs Car Wash (all locations, it the tire shine hydraulic press at end with rotating bristles for tires). This was an ongoing issue. After using their ultimate car wash in time, the force of the tire shine rotating brushes hydraulically moved and pressed up against the wheels and the side of the car wore off my paint and eventually cracked one of my rockers. My car met all height requirementsβit was five inches tall, and the minimum requirement on Mikeβs website was three inches. Also, there were no aftermarket parts on my car. Before I even signed up, I asked the manager if my car would be safe using their car wash. He measured it, looked at the wheels and tires, and said, βYes, your car is safe here.β But over time as the brushes spun to apply the tire shine, they also rubbed along my rocker panels as the car moved. I didnβt know what was causing this for a while until after I had it repaired at a body shop and then saw the same damage come back after two months. When I took it to the body shop, they looked at it and asked, βDo you take your car to a car wash?β I said, βYes.β They asked, βWhere

Donβt come here if you want scratches on your car. Left the car wash with 3 big scratches on my top hood. The manager mentioned my claim would βprobably not be approved because there would be more scratches if it came from themβ

Well, I'll never use Mike's again. Their wash literally ripped off a piece of trim. The piece between the windshield and frame. The piece was found IN the car wash. Their insurance division basically just denies most if not all of any claim. Their defense? From camera footage it was "loose prior to entering the car wash". Seriously? First how in the world would a camera angle show that? Second, a loose piece like that sure did a remarkable job staying on driving 70+ on a freeway or during storms, etc. It wasn't loose. What else could they possibly say though since it is a fact that the wash ripped off a piece of my car? I'd also love to know the theory as to how a piece like that would come "loose"? What a horrible business practice. Read other reviews. It seems to be exactly how they operate. The wash breaks a car and they deny the claim.

Paying for a service that almost never works is just crazy to me. If I am a patron that is paying for unlimited washes and almost never that lane works is a inconvenience. The patron that is paying for a convenience to be inconvenienced is not good. I just sat in line and watched 12 cars pull up and pay and I pay for a unlimited wash for convenience and I'm sitting behind this gate. Not good hospitality not good customer service please do something about it.
